Welcome to AWOL Studios, now home of over 30 art studios in Greater Manchester. AWOL Studios covers over 10,000 sq ft of Studio spaces, ranging from 150 sq ft individual spaces, to 800 sq ft group spaces, and 1400 sq ft private spaces, and houses new and established artists and Creative Industries. The sizes and shapes of the studios all differ as many have been built to artists specific needs, so AWOL Studios can house a wide range of requirements. As always AWOL Studios attempts to meet all the important requirements for Studio spaces :
AWOL Studios are attempting to solve many of the issues faced by Cultural Industries in Greater Manchester by providing flexible workspaces, in suitable locations, and at realistic prices. We do this by scouring the region for spaces, then signing up spaces in bulk, so we all get a better deal! Some spaces are old properties which are converted; others are existing studios with which new prices and terms are negotiated. AWOL Studios avoids the overheads of most agencies and property management companies, by avoiding paying for a corporate agents to manage the property, expensive advertising, or hiring city center offices. That way the savings can be passed directly onto you.
So if you are looking for a studio, get in touch, and we will go out of our way to find what you need!

On Friday 10th March 2006 we will launch our new website: www.smallpond.info. The website is a portal that links the individual websites of each participating studio group. To mark this occasion the artists who make up these studio groups have all been invited to submit an artwork for a week-long exhibition at The Engine House, Chorlton Mill. With around 270 potential contributions we are expecting a rich variety of artistic styles and aesthetic approaches. Complimentary real ale SMALLpond, made exclusively for our event by Bazens Brewery will be served during the launch. (SMALLpond Real Ale will also be sold at selected pubs throughout Manchester and Salford during March.) With live music from Nancy Elizabeth Cunliffe and Josephine Oniyama the launch will be truly memorable. Alongside the launch, the studios have planned several open studio events. We are inviting the public to visit our places of work to gain an insight to the regions studio system, and meet the artists who make a significant contribution to the North West and UK art scene. To help visitors to find our studios which are often tucked away on obscure side streets - SMALLpond has produced a location map that will be distributed in galleries, tourist information centres and other places of interest around these cities. You can also pick one up at the website launch. www.smallpond.info features the following studio groups:
