Gherdai Hassell is a multidisciplinary visual artist, educator, and public health practitioner and podcast host whose work explores the intersection of art, identity, and well-being. As an Arts in Medicine Fellow, she draws on her background in public health and her international experience facilitating creative programs across communities in the UK, China, and Bermuda, she uses art as a transformative tool for healing and social connection.
Her practice spans painting, collage, and textile-based installations that center Black female identity and memory as sites of reclamation and empowerment. Through her platform Art Affects and her community initiative, The Well, Gherdai leads workshops that integrate creative expression, mindfulness, and self-reflection to promote mental wellness and community.
She has exhibited internationally and facilitated arts and wellness programs for organizations including the Bermuda National Gallery, Venture Arts, and community arts organizations working with refugees and people with disabilities. Gherdai’s work is grounded in a belief that creativity is a public health necessity, a pathway to collective healing and human flourishing. Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions and biennials globally. She is a graduate of Contemporary Art from the China Academy of Art.
