Jude Wainwright AMAFA is a Manchester-based artist whose practice weaves together painting, storytelling, and surrealism to explore themes of identity, memory, and the traces we leave behind. Drawing inspiration from historical portraiture, symbolic detail, and the uncanny, her work merges traditional oil painting techniques with dreamlike imagery, creating richly layered scenes that invite both intimacy and curiosity.
A graduate of the Manchester School of Art, Wainwright has been an active figure in the North West’s creative community for over a decade. Alongside her studio practice, she serves as Studio Manager at AWOL Studios and curates exhibitions, fostering connections between artists and audiences. She has exhibited widely across the UK, including her 2024 solo exhibition Face Off at Saan1 Gallery, Manchester and her forthcoming 2026 solo show Spectacle at The Whitaker, Rossendale.
Her work has been commissioned by both commercial and private collectors throughout the UK, including paintings for television dramas and film. In 2022, she reached the semi-final of Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year. She is an associate member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Artists, and in 2025 presented two episodes of the Sky Arts Masterclasses.
Wainwright’s paintings invite viewers into her imagined world of Judtopia, a place where the familiar meets the fantastical, and where the boundaries between reality and dream dissolve.
