Kirsty Haikney Print

Kirsty is an artist working predominantly in print and collage. Her work is inspired by ancient spaces, rock formations, underwater realms and the elemental nature of island landscapes.

Kirsty is currently working on a collection of collagraph prints iooking at archaeological finds, peat bog bodies and objects for ritual and magic. These ‘finds’ are imagined but take inspiration from years of working in museum stores cataloguing and sorting medieval pottery sherds, ancient tools and stones. The printed finds and fragments are sometimes placed meaningfully on the page and sometimes scattered with their placement left to chance.

The work plays with the idea that archaeological interpretation is an imaginative act; that archaeologists must construct narratives and meaning from sometimes scant physical evidence.
