An exhibition of contemporary painting

AWOL Studios Gallery presents Reflection, an exhibition by three second year Manchester School of Art painting students, John Brindley, Sam Brinsdon and Helen Wheeler.

The paintings seek to evoke reflection in the viewers, either directly through subject matter, or by conjuring personal reflections through connections and associations made with the work.

John Brindley works in both oil and acrylic, exploring colour, abstract shapes and forms. Recently his works show a keen interest in the exploration of abstract geometric shapes as well as the vibrancy of colours.

Sam Brinsdon currently works in a more traditional manner creating subtle paintings that seek to encapsulate light, forms and space.

Helen Wheeler is presently exploring the potential of mutating the two dimensional painting surface to create physical depth and tension, the psychological impact of colour, as well as exploring the materiality of paint itself.

Incorporating a combination of both figurative and abstract works Reflection promises to explore a diverse cross-section of what painting can be today.

Awol residents Sarah Middleton and John Davison have had their work selected for a new exhibition titled “Spectrum” at Broadstone Mill Gallery. The exhibition runs from 21st March to 30th April with an open afternoon on 24th March between 2pm and 4pm.

BBC2 Series Show Me The Monet Wants YOUR Work

BBC TWO has commissioned a new series of ‘Show Me the Monet’.

We would like artists from AWOL to submit their art to us – whether you have publicly displayed any of your work before or not, whether you have ever sold any of your work before or not, we want to see it!

This could be your chance to get your art seen not just by some very prominent members of the art world but also by the nation… and it could be the first step on the road to recognition and success for you.

Our Hanging Committee (see Judges & Presenter) is searching for great art from both amateurs and professionals alike. Anyone can enter as long as you submit your own personal work of art. It could be a painting, a sculpture, a photograph, a drawing, a ceramic – as long as you have created it yourself, you can enter it (see terms and conditions).

The Hanging Committee needs great art to put into a new exhibition where members of the art establishment, together with members of the public, can view and buy the work that is selected. All the work at the exhibition will have your guide price attached but will be offered for sale by sealed offers – meaning that potential buyers will not know what anyone else has offered until the sale is over!

How to enter: take a photo of the piece of work you would like to enter (see terms and conditions of entry) and a photo of yourself and download them to your computer. Visit our APPLY NOW page (please note that this page will NOT accept entries until 09.00 on Monday 12th December 2011 and that we will only accept the first 3,000 applications.)

Submission opening date: 09.00 on the 12th December 2011
