Stefanie Trow

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020

Stefanie Trow was born in South Yorkshire in 1982. She pursued her talent and love for art from an early age, encouraged by both parents, aspiring artists themselves. After graduating in Visual Arts in 2004, Stefanie spent a year travelling around the world, something she repeated more recently with her young family for 3 months whilst on maternity leave. Being immersed in different cultures and meeting all walks of life has undoubtedly influenced her art and ideas.

Stefanie’s practice centre’s on the human gaze, inviting a relationship between the viewer and the viewed, questioning the act of seeing and being seen. She creates environments that hold the viewer’s attention; slowing down the process of looking to contrast with the sometimes-frantic pace of everyday life.

Her work stems from an assortment of images, both found and taken from life, predominately focusing on the figure. These images are carefully selected and cropped at crucial points, often obstructing or restricting the gaze, making us consider what can’t be seen or what exists outside the framework of the canvas.

Layering and removing of the paint plays a pivotal role in the creation of her work. In this way, each piece has its own history. Using a variety of tools and techniques, combined with painstakingly selected colour palettes, Stefanie creates work that is bold and vibrant in both colour and composition.

Stefanie and her work have featured in Musicians Baaba Maal’s music video “Gilli Men”. She now exhibits in Manchester and London, with her work collected globally.

Steve Forrest / Workers’ Photos

Monday, February 3rd, 2020

I am a Manchester-born photographer and artist who has recently returned to my home city after 25 years away. I have been a regular contributor to the New York Times, shooting portraits of famous people, interesting people, the odd nutter, together with cultural stories. My work has appeared in National Geographic, Newsweek, Time, Stern, International Herald Tribune, Intelligent Life, and The Guardian Weekend magazine. I am also a contract photographer with the International AIDS Society and The Union of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, as well as being a member of Panos Pictures in London. In 2015 I completed an MFA in Fine Art at Goldsmith’s in London. So when I’m not shooting for clients or engaged in photography personal projects, I can be found working on my artwork in my studio surrounded by heaps of negatives, prints, a scalpel, and a pair scissors.

I am a sculptor who works in a cycle of play and reflection, seeking to bring thoughts and feelings into the real world; and so to capture something from the onwards rush of life.

I particularly like site-specific work and I recently completed a large-scale project at Victoria Baths, which is to be retained on indefinite loan. But I also enjoy private commissions and I love to find common ground between my own excitements and those of a client.

Her latest works are the ‘Reflections’ and ‘Connections’ projects. Hatitze aims to reflect what she gets from the world around her. We see a confusing scene in her canvases and chaotic city plans on her paper works. We can see only some parts of the people, things, nature or city which are depicted in her works.

Beside her basic practice on oil painting she is practicing on linocut printing. Her interest is concentrated on the surfaces, the textures and the materials which she uses each time.

Dave Draws

Thursday, December 5th, 2019

Dave Draws is a freelance artist and illustrator who specialises in doodle maps of cities and large scale wall murals.

Dave works predominantly in black and white with abstract patterns surrounding detailed illustrations of buildings and other objects. Dave lived in Berlin before he moved to Manchester where he

exhibited some of his more abstract doodle pieces. It was whilst he was out there that someone told him that his work looked like a city from above. This put the idea in Dave’s head of drawing quirky versions of

cities from above. Dave moved to Manchester and did just that, drawing Manchester from above and selling prints on his online shop. These maps have proved to be very popular and Dave has now drawn many cities including Birmingham, Liverpool, Sheffield, London and York.

Dave also specialise in large scale murals where using his trusty posca pens he transfers doodle maps onto wall’s. turning blank white walls into bespoke maps. Dave’s past clients include Channel 4, Unilad, Innside New York, Manchester Arndale, Urban Bubble, CBRE and ITV.

if you are interested in a commission or a doodle map of your own then please get in touch!

Felicity Meachem

Thursday, December 5th, 2019

FELICITY MEACHEM

Felicity Meachem is a contemporary British artist. Shortly after completing her BA in Fine Art Painting at the University of Brighton in 2018, she has moved to pursue her practice, now based in Manchester. She has since been awarded Runner Up of the Graduate Art prize 2018 for her painting ‘I’m Alright, Hiding Tonight’ and has had selected work in the Manchester Open Exhibition 2020.

Burgeoning with an overload of pattern, Meachem’s work celebrates the use of the decorative within contemporary Fine Art Painting.  While pattern can still signify twee, kitsch, and the feminine, she believes that with the right use of decoration in painting it can be evocative and empowering.  Her paintings depict dreamscapes made of collaged Images. Figures are suspended in an indefinite psychedelic space, reminiscent of the BFG floating and tumbling about in his phiz-whizzing dream country.
